Opening hours and tickets in 2026
The museum keeps the same hours all year, public holidays included. Prices were checked in September 2026, and the ticket desk is the authority if they move during the year.

Buying ahead is worth it in the high season. The museum opened an online ticket channel on 10 February 2026, which shortens the wait at the desk on busy mornings.
The address, and how to get there
The address is 28 Vo Van Tan, in Xuan Hoa Ward. That ward is the name to give a driver if you book a car or a ride. The old version of the address, District 3, still works in the apps and is what most locals will say.
Since 1 July 2025, Ho Chi Minh City has no districts, only wards. Official listings dropped the number and added the brackets: Xuan Hoa Ward, formerly District 3.
You will meet both versions on signs, tickets and booking forms. Our District 1 guide walks through the same change for the centre.
The museum sits a short ride from the District 1 landmarks, which makes it easy to pair with them in one morning. Metro Line 1 stops at Ben Thanh Market if you are coming from further out.
Most visitors arrive by app ride or on a tour. Both drop you at the gate on Vo Van Tan.
Inside the museum
Three parts of the museum stand out. The aircraft yard on the ground floor holds the captured planes and armour. The outdoor tiger cage replica stands away from the main building. Upstairs, the Agent Orange room is the one our guides save for the end.
Our guides give every guest the same advice on the order, and it is not the order most people walk it in.
- 1First
The aircraft yard
Start on the ground floor, outdoors, while the morning is still cool.
- 2Then
The upper floors
Work up through the photo and document rooms at your own pace.
- 3Last
The Agent Orange room
Leave it for the end. The displays build, and this room lands hardest.
Two hours is enough for all of it at a normal pace. If you read every caption, add half an hour.
Time to allow, and when to go
Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours. The building is compact, but the rooms are dense with photographs, captions and documents, and most visitors slow down once they are inside.
The weather decides the rest. Ho Chi Minh City runs 25 to 35 C all year, at 75 to 85 percent humidity. The rainy season lasts from May to November, with short heavy showers.
Those showers mostly land in the middle or late afternoon. September is the wettest month, around 321 mm. Mornings are usually dry, which is why the early slot is the safe one.
So come between 8:00 and 12:00, or after 16:00. The second window is tight: the desk closes at 5:00 PM and the doors at 5:30 PM, which leaves about 90 minutes inside.
If you arrive that late, go straight to the upper floors and finish with the Agent Orange room.
Is it suitable for children?
Not for young children. The photographs of the war and its aftermath are graphic, which is why our guides suggest around 12 and up. There is no children’s route through the rooms.
If you come as a family, prices drop for the school years: 20,000 VND for ages 6 to 16, and free under 6. A stroller works here, because the main entrance has a ramp and the building has a lift.
Step-free access, and one exception
The main entrance has a ramp and there is a lift inside, which covers the indoor rooms. One part stays out of reach: the outdoor tiger cage replica.
Pair it with these stops
The museum sits in a cluster of stops you can cover in one morning. The Independence Palace is at 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, with its ticket desk at the second gate on Nguyen Du.
Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Saigon Central Post Office face each other across Cong Xa Paris, at numbers 1 and 2. Ben Thanh Market is the other bookend, and its indoor hall closes at 6:00 PM.
Our City Tour by Motorbike covers eight landmarks in four hours. Tickets for the museum and the palace are included, and a local woman drives.
To build the day yourself, our two-day itinerary puts these stops in a workable order. The things to do guide carries the opening hours for the rest of the city.
For prices and bargaining around the market, see our Ben Thanh Market guide and the travel tips page.
Hours and prices of the nearby stops
Here is what the neighbours cost and when they open, checked in September 2026.
| Stop | Address | Hours | Ticket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Independence Palace | 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, tickets at the second gate, 106 Nguyen Du | 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily | 40,000 VND adults, 10,000 VND ages 6 to 15 |
| Notre-Dame Cathedral | 1 Cong Xa Paris, Saigon Ward | Exterior and square open all day | Free, interior for mass only |
| Saigon Central Post Office | 2 Cong Xa Paris | Mon to Fri 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Sat to 6:00 PM, Sun 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM | Free |
| Ben Thanh Market | Le Loi, Ben Thanh Ward | Indoor hall 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, night stalls 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM | Free |
| Fine Arts Museum | 97A Pho Duc Chinh | 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily | 30,000 VND adults, 15,000 VND ages 6 to 16 |
Two of these need a plan. The palace closes without notice for state events, most often around 30 April. Its ticket desk shuts at 4:00 PM.
Notre-Dame is under restoration. Two gold-plated crosses went up on the towers on 19 March 2026, and the scaffolding is coming down in stages. Treat it as an exterior stop.
Inside the palace, the two rooms most visitors walk past are the basement war room and the rooftop with the F-5E bombing plaque. Our guides point out both.
